Common Personal Injury Counselling Questions?

Why Personal Injury Counselling?

Personal Injury Counselling may be a better option than Psychotherapy if:

  • You have specific issues or short term problems you wish to address

  • You wish to learn coping skills to help better manage stress and improve relationships

  • You are coping with life transitions and adjustments

  • You are looking for someone who is essentially a “coach” who can guide and support you as you learn to recognise problems and formulate healthy solutions yourself

Personal Injury Counselling is a short term treatment plan that will last between 6 weeks & 6 months. Clients will receive a Qualified BACP Registered Counsellor who works with individuals who require Personal Injury Counselling.

The Counselling focuses on the present problem and situation of living with a Personal Injury. The counsellor will work with the individual giving guidance, support, and education to help identify and find their own solutions.

Why Personal Injury Psychotherapy?

A psychotherapist may be a better option than Personal Injury Counselling if:

  • You have problems that are significantly impacting your life and relationships.

  • You are coping with past trauma or believe situations in the past may play a role in your current issues.

  • Your present issues are chronic or recurring.

  • You have a chronic medical condition that is affecting your emotional well-being.

  • You have a diagnosed mental health condition such as severe depression, mood or anxiety disorder.

  • You have seen a counsellor, and your issues aren’t improving even though you’ve been actively working on solutions.

Psychotherapy addresses the root cause and core issues of current problems so that lasting change and personal growth may occur. Clients will work with a UKCP Accredited Psychotherapist who will deliver Personal Injury Counselling.

Psychotherapy is a longer-term treatment that focuses more on gaining insight into chronic physical and emotional problems. Its focus is on the person’s thought processes and how past events may influence these in conjunction with the personal injury that causes problems in the present.

  • Focus on chronic or recurrent problems

  • Overall patterns, big picture-oriented

  • Long term therapy, either continuous or intermittent over a longer period

  • Feeling and experience focused

  • May include testing such as personality, intelligence

  • In-depth focus on internal thoughts/feelings (core issues) leading to personal growth

What is Relationship Counselling?

Our counsellors provide a caring, supportive and non-judgmental environment to help you find a way through the effects of your personal injury on your relationships as a couple.

Together we will first help you to identify the issues or problems you are facing in your relationship.

If you decide couple personal injury counselling (couples or friends) is the way forward for both of you, you will embark on a series of short-term counselling sessions – anything between six and twelve sessions is normal, but it will depend on the issues you are experiencing.

For some couples, personal injury counselling is the start of a long process of discovery while for others, a few sessions of personal injury counselling may be all they need to move through a rough patch. You will be able to discuss your expectations with your counsellor.

Counselling Methodologies

SoundMind-UK team can offer differing methodologies of Personal Injury Counselling & Psychotherapies from the outset.

Pros of paying privately for Personal Injury Counselling

Get help almost immediately

Develop a closer, more personal relationship with your therapist as there is no limit on the number of sessions you require.

The NHS has a very ‘one in one out’ style of working, whereas it can feel a lot more personal when you go to private sessions.

Going private means clients can choose different treatments.

Choosing to see a therapist privately offers clients a sense of independence. Although services are available through GPs and NHS-funded mental health services, many people are worried about perceived mental health difficulties appearing on their medical records.

Personal Injury Counselling Paid by the NHS

SoundMind-UK can apply for NHS funded sessions for you.

Sessions are free; this is the biggest advantage of NHS funding.

No application can be guaranteed to be successful.

From the time of application & approval can be 8 weeks or more.

Some regions within the UK will not fund specialist services.

Services that ask us for support include:

  • Solicitors

  • Lawyers

  • Courts

  • Employers

  • Educational establishments (Further Education Colleges, Universities)

Personal Injury Counselling online through our HIPPA compliant video systems has many advantages, including:

Online counselling allows you to speak to a therapist, counsellor or analyst online without having to meet them face to face.

Online therapy is more convenient than traditional therapy. Instead of driving to a therapist’s office for every session, you can log on to our video platform from the comfort of home.

The use of video therapies offers flexibility for clients to schedule sessions into their week.

Video counselling is also helpful for people who struggle to access in-person treatment. They may have a disability, lack transportation, live too far away from a treatment location or be unable to leave their house. Virtual sessions make it possible for these people to receive the mental health treatment they need.
